Why “Silience”?

Founders story

There’s a particular kind of quiet that comes after a big decision. Mine came the day I decided I had to walk away from a role I loved.

I didn’t have a plan. What I had was a list: the skills I’d built over thirty years, the values I kept returning to, the parts of my work that genuinely lit me up, and the parts that quietly drained me every time. I sat with all of it, properly, for the first time in a career that had mostly moved forward without pausing to ask why.

I started with what I loved, then what I had to offer others. What kept surfacing wasn’t a job title. It was a moment, repeated many times over many years, a colleague finding the words for a conversation they’d been avoiding, or talking themselves into believing they were ready for the role they’d talked themselves out of for years. I’d been the one sitting across from them for most of my career, formally or not, not handing them the answer, but asking the questions that let them find it themselves. Watching that shift from doubt to ownership, knowing I’d helped create the conditions for it- that was the thing that had quietly given me purpose all along, long before it had a name.

That was the beginning of Silience.

The philosophy behind it is simple, even if living it isn’t always. When we understand what makes us tick — and what makes us ick — what we’re prepared to fight for, and what we’re prepared to sacrifice, when we acknowledge our strengths as much as our challenges, we can find the courage to stand up for what we believe and be true to ourselves. With congruence, with courage, with compassion and creativity. That’s where clarity comes from. That’s where purpose is found. It’s where I found mine.

Using my experience in people development and leadership, and as a creative practitioner myself — I also run a small bespoke jewellery practice — Silience now supports individuals and teams in understanding their brilliance, finding the courage to own it with humility, and truly thriving.

Why We Start With Self-Awareness

You can’t brave a brilliance you haven’t met

To be better leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, parents, colleagues and friends, we first have to know who we are. We need to understand why we do what we do, and why we react the way we react. Our values. Our motivations.

Because when we understand ourselves, we are in a place to make informed decisions. When we can see what we struggle with, the things, the people and the situations that bring out the best and the worst in us, we can choose what to do with that knowledge.

And here is the thing: we are fundamentally the same person at home, in the office, at the gym and in the pub. We may bring different aspects of ourselves to different places, relationships and circumstances — but we are always our whole selves. We are simply choosing what others see.

What really matters to us?

What fulfils us, and what drains us?

What are we willing to sacrifice, and for what?

What brings out the best and the worst in us?

What we stand for

Our Values

These 4 values shape every conversation, every workshop and every programme we deliver

Congruence

Always our true self, authenticity under pressure

Courage

Choosing the honest thing over the easy thing

Compassion

Meeting struggle, our own or others, with understanding, not judgement

Creativity

Embracing curiosity to create possibility

Why So Much Development Doesn’t Stick

The away-day glow, and what happens after

Have you ever worked somewhere that ran leadership development courses or team-building days? Did you go back to the day-to-day and actually see a change? If you were lucky, if the course was well delivered and well considered — perhaps you did.

But what happened the next time the business hit a period of stress? Did the goodwill and camaraderie fall away? Did the old challenges, the old personality clashes and the difficult leadership revert to type?

Don’t get us wrong: there are some incredible leadership development programmes out there. But if a person does not understand themselves, is not aware of their impact on others, or cannot see the benefit of change for themselves, you are fighting a losing battle, and likely spending thousands of pounds, and a great deal of valuable time, to do it.
